Alkatraz, an unrivaled Toronto rapper, continues to build and uphold his innovative reputation, despite the undoubtably competitive hip-hop scene. He is known for his unique and interesting personal reflections.
The artist’s momentum curtailed when a series of negative life choices led him to two different time periods in prison. After his release, Alkatraz turned his misfortune into inspiration, spilling out hauntingly raw lyrics describing his honest life perspective. He appeared on various Rich Kidd albums, and collaborated with Trench, The Kid, Nitro, P Body, Rich Kidd, and Keon Love, aiding in the creation of the mixtape entitled, Young and Restless. Alkatraz has had two videos on MuchMusic in the past year entitled “Losin’ It”, and “That’s Us”, featuring Trench and MDeezy.
Throughout 2012, Alkatraz has been performing at several hip hop showcases to promote his new mixtape, Days of Our Lives. Currently, he is gearing up for the release of his sophomore album, and has put his life back on a positive track. Alkatraz is determined to reach new audiences with his sharp and dynamic lyrics.
This 22 year old lyrical wizard has created such a buzz on the streets of T.O. since his memorable voice has graced the airways of CKLN’s Powermove Show, CHRY, CIUT & Energy 108 to name a few. What separates this cat from all the rest is his ability to project his refined lyrics into the mind of the listener. Trench’s debut on wax – Catastrophic gained him instant respect from the hip hop community and it doesn’t stop there. The single sold over 300 copies in its first 2 weeks.
IllNoiz.com had Trench on for a lengthy interview and freestyle session, and he was recently featured in the “Emcee of the Minute” section in the July issues of POUND magazine alongside Talib Kweli and Kool G Rap. In 2006, Trench started his own independent recording label Dyce The Label Entertainment with Jay Sparks. This “no holds barred” emcee is hungry as hell – and Toronto is the stepping stone to his global takeover. You’ve been warned.
